About SQ Calculator
SQ Calculator makes area calculations easier to understand. Our free square footage calculator helps you turn measurements into useful area estimates for rooms, outdoor spaces, and everyday projects.
We focus on straightforward inputs, familiar units, and readable results, so you can spend less time calculating and more time planning your next step.
OUR PURPOSE
Making Measurements Easier to Use
A measurement is only useful when you know what to do with it. Our purpose is to make the step from dimensions to area simpler, whether you are measuring a single space or combining several areas for a project.
Keep the process straightforward
Clearly labelled fields help you enter the dimensions needed for your chosen shape.
Make results understandable
Area values are shown with their units, helping you interpret the result and compare measurements.
Support informed planning
Provide a useful starting estimate that you can check against your actual measurements and project requirements.
HOW IT WORKS
The Math Behind Your Results
SQ Calculator uses standard geometry formulas to calculate area from the dimensions you enter. The selected shape determines which formula is used.
- Rectangle
- Length × Width
- Square
- Side × Side
- Circle
- π × Radius²
- Triangle
- (Base × Perpendicular Height) ÷ 2
Combined spaces
An L-shaped space is treated as two non-overlapping rectangles. For multiple spaces, individual areas are added together. Each part should be included only once to avoid double counting.
Units and conversions
Your selected measurement unit is used to convert dimensions into a consistent unit before calculating the area. Results can then be expressed in square feet and other supported area units.
Reading the result
Displayed values are rounded for readability. The result represents area; allowances for cutting, waste, or extra materials need to be considered separately when planning a purchase.
ACCURACY & LIMITATIONS
Understanding Your Estimate
A calculated area depends on the measurements you provide and how closely the selected shape matches your space. Use the result as a planning estimate, then check the details that matter for your project.
Check measurements and units
Measure carefully and select the unit that matches your dimensions. Entering metres while selecting feet will produce a different area.
Account for the actual layout
Curved edges, recesses, openings, and uneven boundaries may need separate measurements. A simple shape can only approximate a space that does not match it.
Confirm what needs to be measured
Floor coverage, wall coverage, and property floor area can require different measurement boundaries. Check which surfaces and spaces your project needs to include.
FEEDBACK & SUPPORT
Help Us Make SQ Calculator Better
Found a confusing result or something that does not work as expected? Feedback can help identify issues and make the calculator easier to use.
Calculation questions
Share the selected shape, dimensions, measurement unit, and the result you received. Include your expected result if you have one, so the difference is easier to understand.
Technical issues
Describe what happened and the steps that led to it. Your device type and browser name can help explain problems with inputs, buttons, or the page layout.
Suggestions and corrections
Let us know if an explanation is unclear or if a measurement option would be useful. Describe the task you are trying to complete and how the change would help.
When sharing an example or screenshot, include only the details needed to explain the issue.
